Remote control via VNC

For the programs toolstar®testLX and toolstar®shredderLX remote control via VNC is possible. You can establish a connection to the devices via VNC and then receive the full Control via toolstar®testLX or toolstar®shredderLX. An automatic reverse connection can also be set up. This allows you to bypass possible firewall restrictions for your customers.

Direct connection

For a direct connection, enter the IP address and port of the target system on any VNC client on your PC (Windows, Mac or Linux). If the target system is located directly in your network, the connection should work immediately. If the target system is on a different network and you need to connect over the Internet first, your request will almost certainly be blocked by default by your target's firewall or router.

The VNC client we recommend for Windows is UltraVNC. This also has a built-in file transfer, which is carried out by toolstar®testLX and toolstar®shredderLX is supported. This allows you to transfer possible protocols or erasure certificates to your Windows PC over the network. Other possible clients would be, for example, RealVNC, or TightVNC.

Reverse connection

With the reverse connection, the target system connects itself to your system. To do this, you must set your firewall or router so that all connections on port X (standard: 5950) are forwarded to a specific IP. The advantage of this connection is that you do not have any problems with your customers' firewall or router because initial outgoing connections are usually less critical than incoming connections.

As soon as a device with toolstar®testLX or toolstar®shredderLX has been booted, the system connects to your network with the specified IP address via port X (standard: 5950). If you use UltraVNC you can activate an automatic list mode. If this is activated, the program runs in the background and pops up as soon as a connection is received.

Information about the listen mode can be found here. Basically, you start the program via the command line with the parameter -listen 5950. A small symbol then appears at the bottom right in the taskbar and confirms the list mode.
