This function is available to you when using toolstar®shredderLX/WIN Enterprise 8x or higher.
In toolstar®testLX, toolstar®shredderLX, toolstar®testWIN and toolstar®shredderWIN hard drive connections can be given special names. This is particularly useful when configuring deletion servers. This way you can describe exactly which port is connected to which data carrier. The designations could be, for example: Bay 1, Slot 1 or Bay 1, Connection 4, etc. These designations are displayed on the corresponding tile throughout the entire time. This means you can immediately see when a disk has been fully tested or deleted and pull it out of the correct slot accordingly.
Creating a reference file on Windows (shredderWIN)
- Connect a disk to each slot. This will later be used as a reference for mapping. The more different the data carriers are in terms of name and serial number, the easier the assignment is.
- Start the software via a terminal by entering:
NameOfExeFileOfToolstar.exe DrvConnectorNames=+DrvConSample.txt - You will then find a file named in the starting directory of the EXE file DrvConSample.txt
Creating a reference file on Linux (shredderLX)
- Connect a disk to each slot. This will later be used as a reference for mapping. The more different the data carriers are in terms of name and serial number, the easier the assignment is.
- Start the software as usually
- Once you have reached the main menu, exit the program with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
- On the console, type: ./testlx DrvConnectorNames=+DrvConSample.txt
- Once you have arrived at the main menu, you can shut down the device via the interface. You then carry out all further steps under Windows.
Under Windows you will find a file on the USB stick in the testlx directory DrvConSample.txt mit einer Musterausgabe. Diese können Sie dann in den weiteren Schritten verwenden.
How are descriptions stored?
- The sample file from the previous step contains one entry per line. For example, it could look like this:
# pciBus:Device.Function/Channel:Target:LUN or pciBus:Device.Function/ATAPort (0-based)
# replace everything after the = with your connector designations
pci00:15.0/0:0:0=Intel Celeron/Pentium Silver Processor USB 3.0 xHCI Controller – Toolhous Toolhouse Stick – 00F10000010430
pci00:1c.0/0:0:0=Intel Celeron/Pentium Silver SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller
pci00:1c.0/0:0:1=Intel Celeron/Pentium Silver SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller – HCG8e. – 0x27fa9464 - Each line contains a controller or a controller + connector. For example, in line 2 only a controller without a connection is output. You can basically ignore this. The third line contains the controller from line 2 with a connected device. Here you would check where this data carrier is physically connected (bay, slot, compartment, ...) and enter a description accordingly. For example, it could look like this:
pci00:1c.0/0:0:1=Port 1, row 2 from top
Please note that although USB controllers and devices are also output, the assignment only works for ATA, NVMe, eMMC, etc. USB controllers only ever provide the same number for all devices on a controller/bus and therefore one Assignment with own name per connection per controller not possible. You can also delete all entries with USB in the name. This increases the clarity of the file if there are many entries.
Apply settings to the program
- Rename the file DrvConSample.txt to, for example, DrvConMapping.txt.
- Open the testlx.ini or testwin.ini file on the USB stick in the testlx directory or EXE directory.
- Locate the [Options] section in the testlx.ini or testwin.ini file
- Enter the following in a new line: DrvConnectorNames=DrvConMapping.txt. It can look like this, for example:
… other entries…
[Options]
Lang=en_US
DrvConnectorNames=DrvConMapping.txt
… more entries…
Presentation in the program
In the program itself the display looks like this. You will find your own names at the top of the header of each tile behind the name of the device and also in the information to the right of the test or delete process under Connection name.
In this case the designations assigned were: Bay 1 Slot 4 and Bay 1 Slot 5
