Basic setup of the bootCAST PXE environment

When delivered, toolhouse will provide you with a USB stick that acts as a dongle or, if you have dicided for the online licenses, a license key for downloading the files via nanoways.com. If you have decided on the offline version, you have to connect the dongle to the one on which you want to operate bootCAST.

Preparation of files

Depending on the edition purchased, bootCAST can be used on different Windows versions (Windows® Server , Windows® Client or within a virtual machine with Windows). You can find a list of all the features in the different versions here.

  1. First, you need to prepare a computer with a Windows® operating system installed that matches your bootCAST edition. Further information can be found here.
  2. Next, download the software from nanoways.com by entering your license key.
  3. Unzip the downloaded .ZIP package to a folder on the device. C:/Bootcast is a good place for this. Of course, any other local drive will also work.
  4. Connect the supplied USB dongle to exactly this device. The USB stick must remain permanently connected to this device. For online licenses, you must ensure that there is a connection to the Internet on this device.

What needs to be taken into account?

The speed of bootCAST depends very much on the performance Your network and the data carrier on which the images/programs are stored. It's best to store all files or at least the images/programs on an SSD. This ensures maximum performance. The actual bootCAST program does not necessarily have to be on this SSD to achieve the desired performance. However, this makes configuring the software much easier.

Output file: user.bootcast.mini
