HDClone toolstar®-Edition offers versatile capabilities for backing up and cloning Proxmox systems and virtual machines, as well as for migrating them between physical and virtual hardware.
Cloning and backing up Proxmox hosts
- Complete system backup: Proxmox hosts can be fully backed up, including the operating system, configuration, and disk contents.
- Cloning and restoring: Direct transfer to other storage media or restoration from an image.
- Regardless of the file system: Storage media with ZFS or LVM structures can also be copied entirely at the block level.
- Note: The backup is performed while the Proxmox system is shut down or by booting from HDClone.
Backing up and cloning virtual machines
- Directly within the VM: HDClone can be launched inside a virtual machine to clone, back up, or restore its virtual disks.
- Flexible backup destinations: With NetDisk, data volumes can also be transferred and backed up over the network.
- Independent of the host system: Processing takes place within the VM, without direct access to Proxmox storage management.
Migrating physical systems to Proxmox (P2V)
- Virtualization of existing systems: HDClone can convert physical storage media directly into virtual hard disk images.
- Common VM formats: Support for QCOW2 and VMDK (Stream Optimized), among others.
- Easy integration: The created images can be imported into Proxmox and used as virtual disks.
- Advantage: Existing installations can be retained without having to reinstall the operating system and applications.
Transferring virtual machines to physical hardware (V2P)
- Devirtualization: Virtual disks can be transferred to physical computers using HDClone via NetDisk.
- Direct recovery: Transfer of the complete system, including operating system, applications, and data.
- Advantage: Flexible migration of virtual machines back to physical hardware, for example, during hardware changes or in response to changing requirements.
Functional scope and areas of application
The HDClone toolstar® Edition serves as a tool for physical and virtual systems. It combines data backup, cloning, and recovery with P2V and V2P migrations. The software operates largely independently of the storage technology used.
Notice:
The processes described take place offline. When migrating between physical and virtual hardware, adjustments to drivers and boot configurations may be required.
