The SPD-EEPROM information is static information from the installed memory bars. In toolstar®testLX and toolstar®testWIN this information can be displayed on the screen. You can find the menu item under Components -> Memory -> SPD EEPROMs.
What does SPD EEPROM mean?
SPD stands for Serial Presence Detect. Various static values are stored in the SPD-EEPROM area of memory bars, which are mainly used to configure the hardware during the boot process. The BIOS uses this information to adjust the memory controller to the installed bars.
Meaningful use of the provided informations
For you as a user of our software, information such as manufacturer, production date, timing and serial number are particularly interesting. This allows you to specifically order memory bars that exactly fit this device. This can be very helpful, especially for older bars without printing.
The most important values of the SPD-EEPROM information
- Manufacturer
What is the manufacturer of the module (Kingston, Samsung, etc.)? - Serial number
The serial number of the module for warranty claims, etc. - Date of Manufacture
When was the bar made? This way you can order exact replacement parts. - Automatic error detection
Does this memory bar support automatic error detection? - Supported latencies
Within what latencies can the bolt operate? - Maximum bandwidth
The maximum supported bandwidth of the storage bar. - Maximum and minimum operating temperature
Within which temperature ranges can the storage bar be operated safely? - Speed
DDR3, etc.
Timing warning in the program?
Basically, the data in the SPD-EEPROM DIMMS are purely informational values. However, certain values are required by the system to properly configure the storage controller. This includes, for example, timing information. So at what timing the bolt needs to be addressed. If this information is missing, the BIOS will in most cases use a generic timing. So the device starts. However, the memory controller cannot access optimally and the system is slower than it actually should be. This generically selected timing may also lead to problems under high loads and crashes during operation. toolstar®testLX and toolstar®testWIN will automatically notify you when you access the information or the SPD in the long-term test -Have EEPROM information checked.
Information that is otherwise available is missing
Not every manufacturer enters all the information. It can happen that certain fields that are present in other bars are completely missing or that information is simply filled with nonsense. Such as a manufacturing date of 01/01/1900 or the serial number 0000000.
Error message: No DIMMs with SPD EEPROM found
The SPD-EEPROM information is generally accessed and read out in a standardized manner. However, if the manufacturer's motherboard or firmware does not adhere to a specific standard, the driver may not be able to find the information or read it correctly. If this is the case, you will receive the message: No DIMMs with SPD EEPROM found. Unfortunately, reading is not possible on this device. You are welcome to report this error to us. It is important that you send us a description and attach an overview for support purposes to the email. Toolhouse may then be able to adapt the program so that this special case is also handled.
