Difference between logical and physical data recovery
- The hard drive has been formatted or erased
- The partition table is destroyed or overwritten
- The FAT or MFT is damaged or even missing
- The hard drive was partially overwritten

- Or simply everything together, which unfortunately doesn't happen all that rarely, especially when there are viruses
- In the event of a physical defect in the medium (e.g. surface damage after a head crash)

The hard drive is no longer recognized correctly by the BIOS of the PC or by the controller (EIDE/S-ATA/SCSI/Raid, etc.) (there are of course other possible causes here, such as a defect in the firmware).
Noises from the hard drive:
Sind z.B. die Schreib – oder Leseköpfe defekt, dann hören Sie ein gleichmäßiges Klack-Klack-Geräusch.
Gleiten die Schreib – oder Leseköpfe über einen beschädigten Teil der Festplatte (Beschädigung der magnetischen Oberfläche, Headcrash bzw. Headcrash mit Ablösung der Schreib – Leseköpfe) dann hören Sie ein Geräusch, das dem einer Drehbank nicht unähnlich ist.
Attention: In all cases, switch it off immediately or do not switch it on again - and send it to us to check! By attempting to do so yourself, you would only worsen the damage and thereby significantly increase data recovery costs - or make data recovery completely impossible.

Emergency precautions
- If you hear noises from your PC (or hard drive), switch off the device IMMEDIATELY. Do not turn it back on and send it to us to check.
- Never replace the hard drive circuit board, even if you have purchased an identical hard drive - this can only increase the damage.
- Legen Sie die Festplatte nie in einen Kühlschrank oder ein Gefrierfach (Kondensation!). Diesen “Tipp” kann man im Internet leider sehr häufig finden.
- NEVER open a hard drive, no matter what you have read. A clean room or a clean box is always (!) required! NEVER use any data recovery tools that you don't really know well: Such software all too often delivers very unsatisfactory results and many write to the defective hard drive, which then makes professional data recovery very difficult or even impossible.
