Difference between logical and physical data recovery

  • The hard drive has been formatted or erased
  • The partition table is destroyed or overwritten
  • The FAT or MFT is damaged or even missing
  • The hard drive was partially overwritten
  • The root directory has been corrupted or destroyed
  • The boot sector has been deleted
  • Or simply everything together, which unfortunately doesn't happen all that rarely, especially when there are viruses
  • In the event of a physical defect in the medium (e.g. surface damage after a head crash)
  • In the event of an internal electronic defect (e.g. head unit, motor)

The hard drive is no longer recognized correctly by the BIOS of the PC or by the controller (EIDE/S-ATA/SCSI/Raid, etc.) (there are of course other possible causes here, such as a defect in the firmware).

Noises from the hard drive:

For example, if the read/write heads are defective, you will hear a constant clack-clack noise.

If the read/write heads slide over a damaged part of the hard drive (damage to the magnetic surface, head crash or head crash with detachment of the read/write heads), you will hear a noise that is not dissimilar to that of a lathe.

Attention: In all cases, switch it off immediately or do not switch it on again - and send it to us to check! By attempting to do so yourself, you would only worsen the damage and thereby significantly increase data recovery costs - or make data recovery completely impossible.

SEAGATE Serien-Fehler

Wird Ihre Seagate-Festplatte: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Seagate Barracuda ES.2 oder Maxtor DiamondMax 22 Festplatte vom PC im BIOS nicht mehr gefunden oder mit nur 0 GB erkannt?

Notice: Die o. g.

7200.11:
ST31000340AS, ST3750330AS, ST3750630AS, ST3640330AS, ST3640530AS, ST3500320AS, ST3500620AS, ST3500820AS, ST31500341AS, ST31000333AS, ST3640323AS, ST3640623AS, ST3320613AS, ST3320813AS, ST3160813AS. ST31000340NS, ST3750330NS, ST3500320NS, ST3250310NS.

DiamondMax 22:

Betrifft diese Firmwareversionen: SD15, SD16, SD17, SD18, SD19, SD81 und andere.

Emergency precautions

  • If you hear noises from your PC (or hard drive), switch off the device IMMEDIATELY. Do not turn it back on and send it to us to check.
  • Never replace the hard drive circuit board, even if you have purchased an identical hard drive - this can only increase the damage.
  • Legen Sie die Festplatte nie in einen Kühlschrank/Gefrierfach (Kondensation!). Diesen „Tipp“ kann man im Internet leider sehr häufig finden.
  • NEVER open a hard drive, no matter what you have read. A clean room or a clean box is always (!) required! NEVER use any data recovery tools that you don't really know well: Such software all too often delivers very unsatisfactory results and many write to the defective hard drive, which then makes professional data recovery very difficult or even impossible.

Make a data recovery request

This step does not create an order. The order only begins when the data carrier is sent to CompuClinic.

Information about your request and the processing:
All requests will be sent to our external partner via toolhouse DV-Systeme GmbH CompuClinic led. If you have any questions about an ongoing order or the processing, please speak to CompuClinic directly. Order processing and invoicing are carried out entirely by CompuClinic. toolhouse will only forward your request to CompuClinic. If you need help, you can also contact toolhouse directly.
