Make additional COM/LPT ports that are not automatically recognized usable

It may happen that some existing COM ports in toolstar®testLX or toolstar®testWIN are not displayed. In most cases these are COM ports of expansion cards that are not installed directly on the mainboard. Unfortunately, these cannot always be recognized automatically.

Install drivers on Windows

For expansion cards, it can help if you install the manufacturer drivers under Windows. Detection with toolstar®testWIN should then be possible without any problems . For toolstar®testLX there are usually no Linux drivers for expansion cards. Here you have to follow the manual entry instructions below.

Enter COM addresses manually

The addresses of these COM ports can be set manually in toolstar®testLX and Enter toolstar®testWIN. The addresses may appear in the BIOS or be documented in the expansion card manufacturer's documentation. The addresses must be entered in testlx.ini or testwin.ini.

The addresses are entered under the [Ports] section. If this section does not exist, you will have to create it manually. Enter the ports under this section, for example: UserComPort=3E0h. The entries can appear several times with different addresses.

Enter LPT addresses manually

The same options apply to parallel ports as to COM ports. However, the entries under the [Ports] section must then be UserLptPort.

Verification of COM and LPT ports

The program can use the entries VerifyUserComPorts=1 or VerifyUserLptPorts=1 to check whether there is an accessible COM or LPT port at this address before displaying it in the program. If the verification fails, the port will not be displayed in the program and will not produce any “false errors” during testing.
