The innovations in the program

  • NetDisk: Copying hard drives from PC to PC over the network is accelerated up to 200% thanks to newly integrated compression that is automatically negotiated between communication partners.
  • SMB network shares: The network shares available on the LAN (SMB protocol) can be automatically listed in the network storage applet; for this they must be made known via MDNS. Manually specifying (e.g. hidden) releases is still possible.
  • Special image format for archiving: A special archive image format has been introduced for the archiving of data media, which can verifiably ensure the immutability of the image contained. Nevertheless, this image type can be used just like the standard HDClone images. The archive image format is also suitable for direct creation on FTP servers or tape drives.
  • USB LAN Adapter - almost all models: For optimal use of the network and Internet-oriented functions, connection to a LAN is recommended. In the event of missing or unsuitable LAN ports, common USB LAN adapters (Realtek and ASIX chipsets) can now also be used in the boot versions.
  • Volume Images: Create images of network drives, network shares, sub drives and NAS storage for backup. The created images can then be used in HDClone as usual.
  • FTP access - fully integrated: Save images directly to an FTP server on the Internet, WAN or LAN. Supports various routers and NAS with FTP server option and mobile devices with FTP server app. One or more FTP servers can be connected and used for saving or restoring images and backups.
  • BitLocker drives with partial encryption: HDClone can also mount and use partially encrypted BitLocker drives, e.g. in the Spot file manager. In addition, these can be backed up, copied and played back. The user can choose whether a fully encrypted or a fully decrypted drive is desired, and the encryption or decryption then occurs automatically “on-the-fly”.
  • Progress bar with progression display: The new progress bar now also shows the speed over the entire time course (graph). This makes it easy to distinguish specific properties of the data carriers and media involved from errors.
  • USB tethering with Android: The self-booting versions of HDClone can provide direct access to Wi-Fi or the Internet via USB tethering to Android smartphones or tablets. By enabling USB tethering on the device and connecting via USB cable, HDClone can be easily connected to Wi-Fi and online.
  • NoExecute compatible for security: HDClone now supports the “NoExecute” CPU feature in boot versions (Intel: XD, AMD: NX). Memory areas that contain data cannot be executed easily. This prevents malicious code from gaining access to a system, which is why it will become standard on SecureBoot-capable systems in the future.
  • CPU-integrated Thunderbolt controllers: The boot versions of HDClone now also support the latest
    generation of Thunderbolt controllers, in which the controller has been integrated directly into the CPU.
  • Booting and starting on ARM CPUs: CPUs with ARM architecture require programming and creating completely custom program files. With the optional “ARM add-on” you also receive these specific program files so that you can also use HDClone on ARM-based PCs with Snapdragon® CPUs.
  • Start directly under Linux Start: With the optional “Linux add-on” you get HDClone/X, an app image for Linux on 64 bit Intel/AMD -Processors. This is
    to be a directly executable file, similar to an EXE file under Windows, which does not require any other installation on the Linux system.
  • NetDisk Technology (NDAS): NetDisk technology allows data storage devices to be used across the network as if they were connected locally. In contrast to network shares, the underlying physical disks are available 1:1. This means that all functions that require direct disk access can now also be carried out via the network. In particular, 1:1 copies and data refills can be carried out directly via the network. For notebooks with a built-in storage medium and only a few USB ports, for example, simple “refueling” can take place via the network.
  • NetDisk Server App: The NetDisk Server app is started on a system in order to make its data storage media available on the network as NetDisks for HDClone.
  • NetDisk Applet: Controls 1:1 disk access over the network.
  • FlashRefresh App: The flash memory of some SSD, NVMe, eMMC and UFS data carriers “ages” simply due to the operating time, i.e. after long periods of operation, read access in particular becomes significantly slower. With the FlashRefresh app, such data carriers can be refreshed in one go without destroying the data (such as when trimming).
  • USB 4 & Thunderbolt 4: USB 4 and Thunderbolt 4 standard are automatically recognized and supported.
  • BitLocker Applet: The new BitLocker Applet allows access to volumes encrypted with Bitlocker so that the files stored on them can be used unencrypted.
  • BitLocker Conversion: The cloning and imaging apps now support BitLocker encrypted volumes. These can now be copied with SmartCopy and SmartImage. You can also specify whether these volumes should be decrypted when copied or whether the encryption is retained. Even incomplete encryption processes can be completed on the fly.
  • Standard User Account Support: HDClone can now also be used in standard user accounts after an installation.
  • HDClone/L64: The self-booting variant HDClone/L has been completely converted to 64-bit. This means that all available resources are used optimally.
  • X2 APIC: Support for the X2 APIC interrupt system on high-end server hardware for improved speed.
  • Intel Software RAID for NVMe and VMD: Support for NVMe and VMD disks within an Intel Software RAIDS.
  • BitCopy/RescueCopy Resume with checksum: When resuming a RescueCopy, the previously written content of the target can be verified.
  • High-Level MultiCore Support: Adjustments for faster copy and program speeds on systems with many CPUs and cores.
  • Network drives and Subst drives are directly visible/usable: The network drives and subst drives of the normal user account under Windows are available directly from startup. This means HDClone can access all network drives even without administrator rights.
  • RescueApp suite specifically for data recovery:
    • RescueCopy: Especially suitable for copying defective data carriers. Supports disks that fail irregularly. The process will continue automatically when the hard drive is turned on again
    • RescueImage: A special image format for data recovery. Also allows the creation of incomplete images.
    • RescueResume: Allows properly aborted copy or image operations to be continued at a later time.
    • RescueRestore: Restoring RescueImages to physical storage media, even if the image is incomplete.
  • Change Windows system SID, WSUS ID and computer name when copying or restoring. Also possible without a copy via the OS-Adjust app.
  • Windows-on-ARM: Special program files for ARM systems for quick operation and copying. Program specially adapted to the ARM architecture.
  • Full support for Windows 11 and Server 2022.
  • Automatic detection (depending on firmware and hard drive) of defective media with a warning before copying. This means you can flexibly switch to the RescueApps.
  • Revised image mount function: Images can be mounted as usual in HDClone and used via Spot and also passed on to Windows as a drive via HDClone without MVD. This allows you to mount an image without any installation and access it as a virtual drive in Windows Explorer.
  • Enlarge MBR partitioning for Windows installations up to 4 TB. This overwrites the actual maximum limit of 2 TB and also allows large disks to be used in older systems.

  • Online live status creates an overview and provides remote information about the status of the copies. When live status is activated, all copies and images running with this license can be clearly displayed and monitored live. All important data and the status of the copy can be checked from the office PC, cell phone or anywhere there is a browser with Internet.

Data backup

HDClone toolstar®-Edition is used by many customers to backup data before modifications are made to a device. By quickly backing up the data before your actual service work, you ensure that nothing is lost.

Data migration

With HDClone toolstar® Edition you can easily perform data migrations from HDD to SSD/NVMe. HDClone toolstar®-Edition always uses the maximum speed that can be provided by the hardware. This leads to a very fast throughput of data. Migrations can be performed from Windows, Linux and Mac devices.


Easily create or convert VM images (Virtualbox, VMWare, VirtualPC,). This allows you to convert physical machines into virtual PCs and back again. HDClone toolstar® Edition offers various setting options for virtual images so that they can be adapted exactly to your needs.


With HDClone toolstar®-Edition you can convert MBR partitioned hard drives directly to GPT on-the-fly during copying with a simple selection. This means that older systems can easily be migrated to new hardware and hard drives larger than 2TB can be fully addressed with old installations.

Data recovery

The HDClone toolstar® Edition includes the BIT-Copy function (for 1:1 copying of data) and BIT-Image (for creating 1:1 images (forensic images)). This makes it easy to create images or copies before data recovery in order to protect the customer's original data. In addition, HDClone toolstar® Edition is specifically designed for copying logically and physically defective hard drives.

Copy physically defective media

With HDClone toolstar® Edition physically defective hard drives can often be saved in whole or in part. With the built-in SafeRescue mode, defects are automatically detected and treated accordingly by the program. Basically, in such a case, all perfectly accessible data is copied first and then all defective sectors/blocks are copied in the second run. However, if that doesn't work (depending on the severity of the damage), you will still have saved all perfectly accessible data from a physically defective hard drive.

SafeRescue mode: Specially for data recovery

HDClone is particularly suitable for data recovery. Physical defects in particular spread quickly throughout the entire medium during operation. Safe Rescue mode reads the data with minimal strain on the hard drive. Various recovery procedures can then be tried on a copy of the hard drive to be saved without endangering the original data. HDClone works with various strategies to rescue bad sectors. These do not affect the copying process. This gives you the optimal conditions for successful data recovery. You can even clone from an active RAID to a single hard drive. The special Rescue Copy App can automatically deal with media that sporadically logs off (overheating, overload, etc.) and the created images can be continued from this point in the event of a complete cancellation in order to complete a new one To prevent load on the data carrier.
